Who's At Your Door?

Rev. John R. Greene

We all get them. You know, the knock at our doors! "Hi! We want to share with you the truth!" When Jesus was in the chamber of Pontius Pilate to be tried, He was asked by Pilate, "What is truth?" This question doesn't deal with facts. Facts change! I'm currently putting up sheetrock in an addition to our house. The fact is that the screws show, but when I get finished mudding and taping, they will no longer show. A fact may be true, but only for a time!

Truth is something that will stay constant and never be able to be changed! The Bible (the original language in which it was written: The Old Testament was in Hebrew and Chaldean while the New Testament was in Greek) is true and will never change! However, the translation of the original languages will depend on the scholars that translate it and the language into which it is translated. What we have termed as the "Authorized King James Version" is widely accepted, but many prefer "The New King James" because of its elimination of the Elizabethan style of the English language (the "thee's, thou's, hath's etc.).

So when you get the knock on your door, what do you do? Hide and pretend you're not home? Perhaps, you say, "Hi, I'm not interested in what you got," then you slam the door! Maybe you might invite them in and listen to what is said? Did you know that Jesus said to go out into the highways and byways, to make disciples of all nations, to preach the truth to every living creature? The person that is at your door may be interested in your welfare. However, the chances are that they may be interested in "seducing" you with "logical" sounding words. They may say it is the truth. How do you know?

In Col 2:8, it says, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." KJV AV

How do you know the truth? How do you know that what is being said to you isn't worth the paper that it is printed on? It is simple! You read the Bible and get to know the Author of all truth! You read the Gospels and get to know The One Who died for your sin and mine. You read the Bible and pray to The One True God, Jesus Christ the Son, God The Father, and The Holy Spirit. This is commonly called the Blessed Trinity, the Godhead! When you know the Giver of the truth, then you will know whether what is being told to you is true or not. Get into a good church that preaches Jesus Christ, Him crucified, and the 3rd day raised from the dead! Study the Bible for yourself, but most importantly, cry out to Jesus and confess your sins to Him so that He may wash away all of your sin with His blood. This is the truth! Don't believe what people say about the Bible! You be sure to believe what the Bible says about itself!!

In John 14:6, Jesus says, "I Am The Way, The Truth, and The Life: no man cometh unto The Father, but by Me." KJV AV
