Do you really think you're going to heaven?

Rev. John R. Greene

So you count on going to heaven? Praise the Lord! I only hope that you realize that going to heaven is not wishful thinking, neither is it a series of commands that you obey, nor are you put on a scale and measured to see if you have more good works than bad ones!

Recently on Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman, a character stated that she wouldn't get married again because marriage was merely a piece of paper with nothing binding. Tragically, the USA has fallen for this lie!

Our society has cheapened covenants and agreements to pieces of paper. Ballplayers sit out of camp refusing to honor their contract because someone else has received more money. We shake hands in agreement, then we end up in court, and we sue lying through our teeth not wanting to honor our word! All this because we have discounted our promises!

Paul makes it clear that a Jew wasn't a Jew because of the physical circumcision, but because the heart was circumcised (Rom 2). With God we can have a personal relationship, but any adjustment to make it a piece of paper with you trusting an action, even if Jesus does the action is unsafe. Abraham of Genesis chapters 12-23 proves this!

Because you say you're okay means nothing! God only honors His covenant with those that believe in Him and rely on Him, NOT because you say you are trusting Jesus' blood! Yes, sin is washed away with His blood, but when you reduced this covenant to a piece of paper, you removed Jesus.

The church has taken this half-witted thought habit and reduced God to a piece of paper honoring it when convenient. Jesus is THE BRIDEGROOM and the true church is the bride. Not everyone in church is a part of the true church and consequently the bride.

Jesus is revealed clearly as the Groom and the true church the bride, a marriage covenant that Paul explains in Ephesians 5. There is loyalty, trust, faith, love, commitment, all the things missing in a piece of paper! These are abstracts not physical or deeds! My wife knows that I love her, not because I say that I love her (this is important), but because the attitudes of my heart manifest into the physical revealing that I love her. With Jesus it is no different.

In Matthew 7, Jesus clearly states that just because you say you're going to heaven doesn't make it so! Only a few people will go to heaven! The road to destruction is broad and full of confessing church members, but the end is hell.

So you actually think you're going to heaven? Great! I know I'm going to heaven because I am madly in love with Jesus! I know because He talks with me and tells me He loves me! I know because I'm washed in His blood and this happened because I repented of my sins. I was sorry for my sin! I sobbed and sobbed when I realized that my life caused a holy Jesus to die! But, praise God, He loved me enough to do it willingly! This is commitment from His marriage vows, and my commitment is no less!

I spend time daily in prayer with my Love; I daily read about my Love; and I tell Him how much I want to be in His presence! I love Jesus with all my heart, and I look at my life, the proof. This is why I'm going to heaven! Are you going?
